U6 to U10 Match Reports 2012

U7 South Board Fixture: Saturday 30th June

The U7’s performed very well against a Sarsfield team with small numbers on Saturday.

Best for Raheens were Cian O’Reilly, Mikey Coffey, Ben Morrell, Caolan O’Toole, Oisin Dowling, Aaron Conway, Conor Hogarty, Bobby Taaffe, Cain Cooke, Robert Dempsey, Cathal McCarthy.

U9 South Board Fixture: Saturday 30th June

Raheens welcomed Sarsfields to Tom Lawlor park for the first round of under nine, Divison 1, Go Games.

Go Games is a special format which allows all players to spend time on the ball thus enabling teamwork and skill development.

Raheens fielded two under nine teams this week ensuring that all of the panel got a full game.

The Blue team played very well with excellent defence from Sean Hogarty, Mathew O'Neil, Paul O'Donnell and Alex Swift who also linked well with the midfield of Jack Taffe and Daniel Courtney. The boys displayed all the key skills including catching, fist passing and soloing.

The forward line of Sean Merrrigan, Fionn Cooke and Mark Carton were excellent and produced a fine display of point scoring for Raheens to come from behind and just edge this game by a few points

Meanwhile the Green team was putting up a sterling defensive display against a Sarsfields team which had to field a number of under tens to make up their numbers.

Raheens were resolute in defence with Aaron Farrelly, Luke O'Donovan, Rory Kenny and Dara Hill working their socks against a skilled Sarsfields forwardline. The Raheens lads continually blocked and harassed the forwards causing many turnovers. However, Sarsfields edged into the lead as the game progressed.

The midfield of Fionn Tully, Calum
Stoute and Oisin Cooke showed great determination and dominated for large parts of the game. In attack they showed great skill with each contributing to the scoresheet.

The forward line of Eoin Sharpe, Ben Farrelly and James Kelly were really up against it as the full back line were all under tens. However, the lads never dropped the heads and made sure that Raheens kept the score board ticking over throughout the game. The game was in the melting pot until the last quarter when Sarsfields moved ahead.

All in all Raheens held their own, winning one game and narrowly losing the other.

The key outcome is that the lads continue to develop their skills, get comfortable on the ball and develop team spirit. There is no doubt that they are turning into a great bunch of skilled footballers.

A big thanks to Shane Cooke and Seanie Taffe for coaching and mentoring the lads and to all the parents who attended and cheered on the teams.

Next game is away against Moorefield Saturday July 7.

U10 South Board Fixture: Tuesday 22nd May
The under 10 Yellow team played their last match in this competition against Round Towers last tuesday night. Yet again it was a great display from all the lads. The midfield were outstanding where Alan Waters produced a great display of fielding blocking and long passing. The forwards in the first half produced some great flowing movements picking off some brilliant scores none better than Callum McCalls from the half forward line. The backs were solid throughout and never allowed their opponents gain posession of the ball. They cleared their lines at all times with Daragh O Shaughnessy excelling. In the second half Raheens increased the pressure and pulled further ahead with Cillian Magner kicking some lovely scores from play. This was a great win for the lads and from the coaches point of view it was great to see the the continuous improvement in this particular group of players.

U8 South Board Fixture: 19th May

TheU8 team played two matches in the third round of their South Board fixtures away to St Laurence’s on Saturday. In the first match Raheens started well and took and early lead which they held on to for the remainder of the half. In the third quarter, Raheens pulled away with some excellent fielding by the midfield followed up by some fine scores particularly from David MacPartlin, Andrew Dunne, and Niall Dolan. In the final quarter the backs held firm and strong to thwart many attempts to close the gap from a very competent and skilful St Laurence’s team.

Best for Raheens were Niall Dolan, David MacPartlin, Daragh Cunningham and Oisin Cooke.

In the second match Raheens produced another fine display against a well drilled St Laurence's team with strong performances throughout the field. There were some particularly fine performances from Peter Kerrigan, Daniel Cullen, Fionn McCarthy and Kieran Dempsey.

These were fine displays from a team who have put in some marvellous performances against Sarsfields, Moorefield and now St Laurence’s. Well done to them all!

They will take a well earned break from matches for a little while to concentrate on developing their skills further.

U10 South Board Fixture: Tuesday 15th May

Raheens U10 blue team had a great win in their last match of the spring league against Round Towers last Tuesday. Raheens got off to a flying start playing with the wind in the first half and picked off some great scores. The players never let up and continued to press, scoring freely from all over the field. In the second half Raheens kept up the same momentum which resulted in Round Towers never being able to break us down. It was an indication that the players all over the field played their part in an emphatic win and a great way to end the campaign. While everybody played their part, particular mention must go to Jack McGovern, Cathal O Toole, Cillian Magner, Sean McLoughlin and Cormac Byrne.

U10 South Board Fixture: Tuesday 8th May

Another tough away fixture for Raheens U10 Blueteam. Both teams fought well and scores were scarce with both defences holding strong. Raheens shaded the first half with scores from Callum McCall and Niall Tierney. More scoring opportunities came in the second half for both sides both from open play and frees. Defences were still on top however and there were strong performances from Michael Dempsey and Harry Byrne in particular. Niall Tierney and Jack Higgins added to the Raheens scores but in a tight game Sarsfields narrowly shaded it the end by a point.

U10 South Board Fixture: Tuesday 8th May

The under 10 yellow team scored a great win over a strong St Laurences side in St Laurences. Raheens got off to a flying start playing some of the best flowing football we have seen, picking off some great scores from play. The determination and skill from Raheens was great to see, from catching, breaking the ball, passing and scoring. It was evident that the hard work in training the last few weeks is really paying off. Michael O Brien was solid in goal as was our defence. The midfield partnership of Paul Dolan and Alan Waters never looked in trouble and pushed forward at every oppertunity. The forwards picked off some lovely scores and ran out deserved winners at the end. Best for Raheens on the day were Michael O Brien, Paul Dolan, Brian Waters, Darragh O Shaughnessy, Cathal O Toole and Alex Donnelly.

U8 South Board Fixture: 5th May

The U8 team played the second of their South Board fixtures at home to Moorefield last Saturday morning. Raheens dominated the first half scoring some excellent points giving them a half time lead. In the second half, Moorefield came back strongly matching Raheens score for score.

The players displayed good passing skills and played more as a unit in this game. Strong numbers, unfortunately, meant that playing time was restricted but players didn’t complain and a good time was had by all.

Best for Raheens were Dara Crowley, Luke O’Donovan, Jamie McLoughlin and Fionn Cooke.

U10 Girls: Tuesday 8th May

Raheens Under 10 girls had their first game of the season at home V Celbridge Tuesday 8th May . It was the first ever game for the Celbridge girls and our girls proved to be a bit too strong for them. Playing the Go Game rules the mentors ran the players on throughout the game. Raheens showed some good passing moves, approached the ball well and created and finished some fine scores. Best on the day were the Kielty twins Grace and Sally, Lauren Nolan making her debut, Sadhbh Carpenter, Rachel Ryan, Aoife Kane, Sinéad Winder and Anna O' Donovan.

U10 South Board Fixture: 24thApril

A 2nd consecutive victory for the Raheens U-10 yellow team, this time away to Athy. With impressive performances from Michael O’Brien, Cathal O’Toole and Ben Early in defence, Raheens dominated possession with an excellent midfield partnership of Oisin Keogh and Jack McGovern. Scoring proved difficult but Brian Waters chipped in a couple of nicely taken points.

U10 South Board Fixture: 24thApril

The U10 Blues 2nd league encounter was a home match against Moorefield. Moorefield started the stronger and took an early lead. As the first half went on Raheens began to find their form and the match became more even. Niall Tiernan starting in the forward line began to drop deeper and this helped Raheens keep more possession. Scores were traded and Moorefield narrowly shaded the first half. Moorefield again started the second half stronger and, despite good work in both midfield and defence, managed to put over a few scores in succession. Raheens rallied as a team with Sean McGloughlin and Michael Dempsey securing the backline allowing Cormac Byrne to provide extra energy in midfield to support the good forward running of Adam Delmer. Raheens began to find their scoring touch both from frees and open play with Niall Tierney scoring another couple in the second half. A great effort by both teams and well matched at the end of the game which Moorefield narrowly edged by 2 scores.

U8 South Board Fixture: 20thApril

The U8 team played the first of their South Board fixtures away to Sarsfields last Friday evening. There was an excellent turnout (23 players) and Raheens more than matched a very strong Sarsfields team in all areas of the pitch in both matches played.

The players showed that they have lost none of their skills over the winter months with excellent displays of passing, kicking and tackling.

There were particularly good performances from Daragh Cunningham, Ciaran Kavanagh, Gavin Thompson, Fionn MacCarthy, Nicolas Hore, Andrew Dunne, Peter Kerrigan, and Fiachra Butler.

The Sarsfields coaches were very impressed with the players, describing this encounter as the toughest match that their team has ever had.

Thanks to all the coaches in Sarsfields for their hospitality and we look forward to many more encounters in the future.

U10 South Board Fixture: 17thApril

The under 10 Blue team played their first match of the season away to Athy last Tuesday the 17th. It proved to be a challenging encounter with good performances throughout. We got off to a solid start and held our own for much of the first half. In the second half our opponents pulled away but we never gave up and continued to press which resulted in a very well worked goal in the closing stages. There were very good performances all over the park with Oisin Keogh, Harry Byrne and Henry Bergin doing particularly well on the day.

U10 South Board Fixture: 17thApril

The U10 Yellow team’s first league outing of the year was a home fixture against Castlemitchell on a cold and windy night. Both teams fought hard and put in a lot of effort to combat the windy conditions. Both teams played well but as time went on Raheens looked the more comfortable and began to take control. Strong performances at the back by Michael Dempsey and Cathal O’Toole and in midfield by Jack McGovern and Jack Higgins allowed Raheens the majority of possession. Scores came regularly from both midfield and the forward line to give Raheens a half time lead. While there was no abatement to the conditions in the second half the confidence of the team increased and the defence remained secure. Scores continued to come and Callum McCall helped himself to 3 second half scores after playing the first half in goals. Castlemitchel continue to fight hard to keep Raheens on their toes throughout. A good win in the end for Raheens and a solid start to the league campaign.
